Matt is a native of Birmingham, Alabama and considers the area to be one of the best places to raise a family. As a graduate of Vestavia Hills High School, Matt later went on to graduate from The University of Alabama with a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration having three majors: Accounting, Finance, & Real Estate. A few years later he attended UAB where he pursued his MBA.

Matt and his wife, Gardner, live in Vestavia Hills where his wife is a third grade teacher at Vestavia Hills Elementary East. They have two adult children, Matt, Jr. and Margaret whom both live locally. His favorite charities include: The Kings Home, Big Oak Ranch, Urban Ministry, and Christian Service Mission. They are members of Church of the Highlands at Grants Mill.
